Family Activities on the Sunshine Coast

The Winter bowls Carnival is in full swing at Maroochydore, just near Ocean Boulevard, which has seen a big influx of visitors into the town. The weather has also been very kind to Race goers at Corbould Park for the Caloundra Cup Festival, which is just as well, as there is a Family Fun Day put on for the children. 

Did you know that Ocean Boulevard and Alexandra Headland are not very far away from the largest gardening Event in Queensland!! The Queensland Garden Expo starts on July 8^th and continues to the end of the day on the 10^th. See www.qldgardenexpo.com.au                         

 It`s a nice drive from Ocean Boulevard to Nambour Showgrounds which will be transformed into a wonderful gardener’s paradise, full of plants, information and inspiration. More than 28,000 people from all over Qld are attracted to this event each year.

The weekend of July 24^th is a fantastic time to come up to Ocean Boulevard and take in all the area has to offer.  Bindy Irwin has her 13^th Birthday party at Australia Zoo so there will be great celebration there with many activities on offer. The same weekend sees the grueling mountain Race  – “King of the Mountain” -  at Pomona, a picturesque town in the hinterland. There will be a fun Festival there with fun runs, entertainment, music, & stalls before the big race. If that doesn’t take your fancy, Gympie is staging it’s Ultimate Steam Festival, where three heritage attractions will combine to give a unique and educational experience. The Valley Rattler is one of the now famous trains which takes day trippers on a memorable journey through the countryside.

If you don`t feel like travelling while you`re here, a leisurely stroll to Mooloolaba for lunch or some shopping might fit the bill!

In August there will be The Sunshine Coast Walks Festival in some beautiful parts of the hinterland such as Maleny and Montville. I will tell more about that at a later date, but the dates are Aug, 19 to 28. Always plenty to see and do around the Alexandra Headland/Mooloolaba area, where Ocean Boulevard is one of the best

Our area has been humming with yachties and sailors in town for the Sail Mooloolaba Regatta and the Australasian Winter Sailing Championship, now in it’s 15^th year. There’s lots to do in June, with the Sunshine Coast Show in Nambour from  the 17^th- 19^th. Sure to be heaps of entertainment there.

Next up to look forward to is A Taste of Coolum, with great food, fine wine, and the best winemakers from around Australia. Coolum is only about a 15 min drive away from Alexandra Headland, and this event begins on June 26^th. You’ll have a ball if you stay in Ocean Boulevard  Mooloolaba Holiday Accommodation with discounts of stays for 3 nights or longer!

Something I know a lot of us would like to do is “Race The Rattler” ! – This thrilling event pits man against machine in an 18.5km race against the Valley Rattler train from  the Mary Valley to Gympie. The happens every year and is due to be run again on June 13^th.

It isn’t far from Alexandra Headland to Gympie, so you can stay at Ocean Boulevard and travel to so many exciting destinations from there by the day. The Noosa Long Weekend is another example – After an easy half hour trip north, treat yourself some culture -  such as film, dance, music, theatre, cuisine and literature.

We’re looking forward to welcoming Lawn Bowlers from all over Australia & New Zealand for the two Bowls Carnivals being held on the Sunshine Coast in the first 2 weeks of July in Maroochydore. Some of them come every year to this area as it is so warm and beautiful when the sun comes out! Surf all year round.

We’re hoping to pop down to Brisbane one day for the first ever Brisbane Winter Festival, at King George Square. The Ice Skating sounds great!! It’s happening from the 9^th-26^th July. We have our own Ice Skating Arena on the Sunshine Coast too.
