SUNSHINE COAST HOLIDAYS FOR WET WEATHER 2011
Christmas is such fun in Mooloolaba and Alexandra Headland - There are huge Christmas trees lit up near the beach, (one very near Ocean Boulevard), and an air of excitement all around! You can follow a Christmas Tree Trail throughout the region, with 29 Community trees to discover and admire. This has to be something that will thrill all ages. While on the subject of lights, one of the fun things to do near Ocean Boulevard is to take a picnic at sunset (with a glass of wine of course) down to the Mooloolaba Harbour, or somewhere beside the main canals & waterways on the evening of December 10th from 6.30pm., and be entertained by the Christmas Parade of decorated boats which cruise quietly along the water from the Coast Guard Building, south and then back past the Wharf and Outrigger Island. It’s a sight to behold and gets you into the Christmas spirit.
If you miss that, or you love boats of any description, take a short trip on a bus to Crummunda Park at Wurtulla on December 11th for a procession of canoes and kayaks at Currimundi Lake from 4pm. There are also Arts & Crafts, food, music and entertainment.
The rain we’ve been having lately is very welcome for the gardens and Parks after a November drought, and in the Sunshine Coast area around Alexandra Headland there is always plenty to do in damp weather!
Number 1. Take a leisurely walk with an umbrella around the beautiful Lake which is situated right behind Ocean Boulevard at your own back door. The ducks and swans are delightful to watch, and you can chat to the other walkers with their dogs.

Just down the road at Mooloolaba is of course the famous Underwater World, which is oceans of fun and will keep you captivated and amused for hours. With its sharks, stingrays, otters, performing seals and coloured fish of all descriptions, the only time you’ll get wet is if one of the otters becomes over–playful.
Cruises are available on covered boats, taking in the multi-million dollar Island, river and Canal homes of the area, and having close encounters with the pelicans! Not to mention the informative history commentary as you glide along taking in the gorgeous scenery.
Winery Tours are just the ticket whether it’s raining or fine, and there are Bus Tours to suit everyone’s tastes. If wine is not to your liking there is always the scenic hinterland to discover – you are sure to remember those quaint historic towns for years to come.

News from Ocean Boulevard in August is that the Sunny Coast is living up to its name - It’s been so warm that all our Southern and New Zealand guests have been thrilled to be able to thaw out and enjoy great Alexandra Headland Accommodation! The Alex Headland, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba beaches are always filled with walkers making the most of the beautiful days, and some have even ventured into the sea! We’ve had lots of friends and relatives from New Zealand popping in and out to say hello, and I think they’re a bit envious of where we live.
Things to See and Do on the Sunshine Coast
Just up the road a bit, the Noosa Jazz Festival begins on September 1st for four days – What a great idea it would be to stay in the calmness of Alexandra Headland and pop up one day to hear and see some of the 150 artists playing for your enjoyment. For the rest of the duration of your stay at Ocean Boulevard you could take a Seafood Cruise around the canals of Mooloolaba, (what gorgeous multi- million dollar homes you will see!) or play a round of golf on a nearby Course, have lunch at Montville looking over the amazing views of the hinterland towards Mooloolaba, or drive a boat along the beautiful Maroochy river as you watch the interesting bird life around you.
After all that, your balcony at Ocean Boulevard looks a very good place to sit in the setting sun and sip a glass of chilled wine.
Good news!! The Whales are about! Those who went out on “Whale One” from Mooloolaba recently, hoping to see some whales passing by, were not disappointed. The crew tells me that there were seven there one day. It`s such a thrill to see them up close and they seem to love the interaction with humans. Sometimes you are lucky enough to meet their calf which are often born in Australian waters. The Sunshine Coast whale watching boat goes out from Mooloolaba Wharf every day until mid August, so not too much time to see them before they head north. The Mooloolaba Wharf is only 5 minutes from Ocean Boulevard at Alexandra Headland, we are conveniently positioned to enjoy all that the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Ring us today to discuss our Sunshine Coast accommodation specials that are just perfect to include a day out on the water with the whales.
The Sunshine Coast is much more than Whale Watching but it is a spectacular time of the year.
